Federally Required Notice to Renewing Small Business Groups

On March 5, the White House announced a regulatory change under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to allow health insurance issuers to renew their existing small business benefit plans through October 2016.

The announcement included model notifications that are required to be mailed separately to renewing groups. Here is a sample copy of the cover letter and required model notice that CommunityCare is mailing to small business groups with April, May and June renewals, as well as a sample copy of the cover letter and model notice that will be sent to small business groups with July-December renewals.

Waiting Period Update

The attached letter will be sent to enrolled CommunityCare groups with a current waiting period greater than 90 days. These groups are being advised that they will be moved to a waiting period of first of the month after 60 days on their renewal date in 2014.

Reminder about disclosure of PHI

As you know, strict state and federal regulations exist regarding Protected Health Information (PHI). According to these regulations, PHI is to be broadly interpreted and includes any part of a patient's medical records or payment history. PHI also includes many common identifiers such as names, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and, of course, Social Security numbers.

Broker Connection - Agent of Record transfer letters

CommunityCare will accept valid Agent of Record transfer letters from enrolled groups wishing to appoint a new producer. For the transfer to be valid, the letter must be on the group's letterhead, be signed by an authorized representative of the group and name a producer that holds a valid appointment with CommunityCare. The letter should request an effective date for the appointment transfer to take place.
